'Melin Massive' (under 16) Youth Forum

Members of the Melin Massive (under 16's) Youth Forum have helped improve not only their community but have also been part of many inspirational projects during the last 18 months.  Here are some pictures of just afew of the activities they and members of the Neath Boys' & Girls Club have been involved in.

Eaglesbush Valley

Eaglesbush  Valley is well known and used locally as an area that has both amenity and biodiversity value. The residents of Melincryddan have shown a commitment to using the site for recreation, walking and enjoying the wildlife present. As a further sign of their commitment, the community have set up an environmental group called NEAT (Neath Environmental Action Team) and work closely with other environmental partners to look after Eaglesbush Valley as well as other sites in Melincryddan.

The Valley provides an interesting combination of historical features, accessible open space and natural habitats supporting a species rich flora and fauna. NPTCBC is committed to protecting such areas and consequently has now been able to designate the site as a Local Nature Reserve.

Melin Walkers

This friendly group offer risk assessed walks to local beauty spots such as woodland parks, canals, seafronts and places of interest.  All walks are accompanied by trained walk leaders equipped with mobiles, walkie talkies and first aid kits.  The walks are graded according to the ease and difficulty of the terrain and the fitness levels within the group so everyone's ability is taken into consideration.  Come along, meet the group and join in on one of their walks.  Car sharing is promoted so don't worry if you don't have transport to a venue.  The group meet at the Melin Advice Centre on Monday and Fridays at 10.00am.   Starting shortly is the introduction of Nordic Walking.  Training will be available to all current and new members to add some extra variety to the walks.
